The First Edition of the International Conference on “The Concept of Geographical Region at the Beginning of the 21st Century”, 22-24 October 2004, Cluj-Napoca, Romania

The conference is dedicated to sharing ideas on the evolution of the concept of geographical region, seen from different perspectives, and the criteria used for its delimitation. The first edition of the conference was marked by the presence of 57 participants from five European countries: Austria, Germany, Hungary, Romania, and Ukraine and included the presentation of 35 papers focused on topics such as delimitation of geographical regions, regionalization, typology of regions, regional convergence and divergence, resilience of regional systems, cross-border regional development, analysis of profoundly lagging-behind areas, and a thorough investigation of various concepts specific to regional science.
